Jewelry Box

This jewelry box dates from the mid-20th century. It is made of mahogany with faux leather accents and corduroy cloth lining. There is also a music box that is activated when the lid is opened.

The jewelry box needed extensive repairs. Both hinges were replaced. All of the interior screw holes for the tray braces were stripped and required repair. I cleaned and reattached the cloth lining. I surface cleaned the faux leather, reattached the edges that had come loose, and lightly oiled it. I removed the old finish from the interior and exterior surfaces and refinished with pure linseed oil, three coats of shop-made shellac, and a coat of shop-made soft wax made from linseed oil and beeswax.

The only part of this jewelry box that DIDN’T need repair was the music box!
