About Me and My Work

I started Clawson Woodworking in July 2025. My goal is to make fun and useful things with traditional methods, nontoxic finishes, and interesting woods. I try my best to source all materials I use locally.

I come from a long line of woodworkers who made everything from buildings to furniture to musical instruments. I grew up surrounded by these people and their work, gaining a love of tools, trees, joinery, geometry, stories, and strong coffee.

I learned furniture repair and antique restoration while working in a small shop in Western North Carolina. This led to my love of traditional methods and techniques as well as all manner of hand tools.

My “formal” training is in Public History. I spent over 20 years working in museums, research libraries, and doing living history interpretation. Along the way I talked with a lot of people, led tours, conducted docent training, gave scholarly lectures, taught classes, and did a tremendous amount of research and writing.

Woodworking and tools were always part of my work. I made things, demonstrated how things are made, and taught others how to create things.

All of this drives what I do with Clawson Woodworking. My methods are traditional. My tools are a blend of period and modern. Everything I make or repair is well researched and executed to the best of my ability. And I do it all in a way that is not toxic to my customers, my family, or me.

When you choose Clawson Woodworking you support a small business rooted in tradition, informed by history, guided by integrity, and fueled by caffeine.
